About the Author
Charles Nordhoff (1887-1951), who served together as U.S. Air Service pilots in World War I, had a highly successful literary partnership that lasted nearly 30 year and produced several worldwide bestsellers. He is best known for his high-seas adventure Bounty trilogy.

The good old days in Hawaii, California, Oregon and Washington

Fascinating account of early Hawaii (the Sandwich Islands), California, and Oregon Territory, which the included what is now Washington State. A travel guide to the sights, people and their customs, and history of those places. Delightful and sympathetic. Wonderful illustrations. Nordhoff (1830-1901) was born in Prussia and emigrated to the U.S. when fifteen years old. At sea for nine years with the navy and merchant marine. Became a staff writer for the New York Evening Post and then the New York Herald. A treasure trove of early information.

Interesting Niche Book

Very informative book about several different geographical areas. A nice snapshot of an intermediate time showing how the people in Hawaii, California, and Oregon lived. The author's perspective from all those years ago was informative also.
