ENCHANTING ELVEN STORY!!!

Gabriel is the author MA Abraham's first book. The book takes place after hundreds of year of wars in the Elven world. Now is the time of peace, happiness, family reunions and of course love.

Book one is the story of Gabriel Eagle Claw, The Lord High General of the Elven world and Eden his beautiful independent Life Mate, who is also, a powerful Guardian of the Forest.

This is my first book about Elve's and I was not disappointed. I didn't know what to expect, but Ms. Abraham painted a beautiful picture in my mind with her words of Elve's and Fae, beautiful villages and woodland forest. I was taken on an enchanted journey, were I met amazing an sometimes funny Elf and Fae characters, that I wanted to know more about. I felt like I was actually their in the story watching Gabriel and Edens love develop and grow. What a wonderful couple. Their are a few twist and surprise's in the story that I didn't see coming and at time I was wondering how is Ms.Abraham going to pull it all together, but she did!! This is a very well written story. WELL DONE MS. ABRAHAM!!! I highly recommend this book and I can't wait for the next book in The Elven Chronicles!!!

Gabriel - great first book

My rate would be more 4.5

This is a great first book in a new series from new author. My only complaint is that first half of a book I needed more dialogue. It felt like that we went through that first half too fast without getting to know them (Eden, Gabriel) and the world that was described better. This is the reason for my rating. The other half was amazing and I can't wait for the second book to come out. My complaint is not to make author feel bad since she did great job, it's just a slight push in giving us one step more which she did with the second part of the book. Very satisfying read and would highly recommend.

First published book from M. A. Abraham takes us into her fanciful fantasy

It is always difficult to take the first step in any venture. Many of us don’t—so we dream our dreams, always wishing we had the guts, the nerve, the time to write our first book and to publish.

Debut novelist, Mary Ann Abraham did take the first step. She had the support and belief of friends who wanted her to succeed. And this my aspiring authors, makes all the difference to a writer.

I won the first three books of The Elven Chronicles. After reading this first one, I am definitely set to continue the rest of the series, particularly since cliffhangers need resolution. Her story captured my interest.

In my opinion, this book was an excellent beginning to a writing career. Most writers are not born, they hone their skills through years of writing. The story took place in a very creative and real setting, albeit fanciful. The character development was such that I readily cheered Eden in her quest to take control back in her life. When she met another woman who didn’t understand how to fight back in her quest of freedom, she helped her know it was a matter of just saying no and sticking to her beliefs.

Punctuation, in many places, was misplaced or mistakenly used. The dialog didn't always ring true when the speech pattern would shift to modern vernacular. This, of course, doesn’t take from the story's creativity, yet these details would better the reader's experience.
I feel the story would have benefitted having greater and deeper conflict taking the story beyond its simplicity. More action which ratchets up the tension and arc of the story itself would, I suspect, have caught my attention more solidly.

The main burden fell to a few hundred men and women, curators and archivists, artists and art historians from 13 nations. Their task was to save and preserve what they could of Europe's great art, and they were called the Monuments Men. Edsel has presented their achievements in documentaries and photographs. He and Witter (coauthor of the bestselling Dewey) are no less successful here. Focusing on the organization's role in northwest Europe, they describe the Monuments Men from their initial mission to limit combat damage to structures and artifacts to their changed focus of locating missing items. Most had been stolen by the Nazis. In southern Germany alone, over a thousand caches emerged, containing everything from church bells to insect collections. The story is both engaging and inspiring. About the Author
Robert Edsel began his career in the oil and gas exploration business. In 1996 he moved to Europe to pursue his interests in the arts. Settling in Florence seeing some of the great works, he wondered how all of the monuments and art treasures survived the devastation of World War II. During the ensuing years, he devoted himself to finding the answer. In the process, he commissioned major research that has resulted in this book. Robert also coproduced the related documentary film, The Rape of Europa, and cowrote Rescuing Da Vinci, a photographic history of an art heist of epic proportions and the Allied rescue effort. The author lives in Dallas.

Bret Witter cowrote the bestseller Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World (Grand Central, 2008). He lives in Louisville, KY.

If you are patient, you will find the treasure in this book

If I had written this review when I was only 25% of the way through this book, I would have given it 2 stars. The beginning of the book can only be described as plodding and in my opinion was not very well constructed. However, I hung in there and the payoff came in the remainder of the book.

The book describes an overlooked group of men and women who served during WWII to save priceless buildings and works of arts in Europe. It also describes the internal conflicts of these folks who wondered, for example, if the German people deserved the return of their Nazi-stolen art. The efforts of these dedicated service-men and -women were, naturally enough, largely overshadowed by the inarguably more important discoveries at the end of WWII, such as the truths revealed by the liberation of the concentration camps. This book is thus a wonderful contribution to an overlooked history of the time.

The end of the book describes the discovery of hidden German repositories of art; the volume and quality of art found in these hiding places is absolutely staggering. I had the pleasure of seeing Michelangelo's flawless Madonna when I was in Bruges and was riveted by her WWII story, which was not described in any detail in the materials given out by the museums there.

In summary: stick with it. The book had some problems with flow, especially in the beginning, but the payoff of the middle and ending was worth it.

A story that we all should read

One of the most enjoyable aspects to the study of history is always finding new stories. Even when you think you know a lot about a field you find something new and enjoyable. That one of the many reasons that I enjoyed Monuments Men so much. Robert Edsel has provided us with a look at an area of World War II studies that has gone virtually unnoticed for nearly 70 years. The men and women of the MFAA (Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives) Division served an almost unknown, but incredibly valuable part in the war against the destructive evil of Nazism.

When Hitler's forces overran Europe they set about looting the national artistic treasures in a methodical manner. Priceless treasures were pillaged from the museums and galleries of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and other European nations. All property belonging to Jews were taken. Hitler's dream was to create an enormous museum that would be the envy of the entire world. Instead he launched the most destructive war in history.

The allies were aware of the cultural heritage in the areas that they would be fighting. This is why the MFAA was created. The original MFAA officers were tasked with traveling into the war zones and identifying historic sites that needed to be preserved. The stories of what these men accomplished is truly amazing. Time after time they were able to save important buildings from being destroyed.

As the book progresses we see another dimension of their work. They began to investigate the Nazi looting. Their job shifted from simply protecting buildings from destruction to locating stolen works of art. At times the book resembles an action thriller story. The theft of priceless works of art. The heroic civilians who work undercover to spy on the Nazis. The small band of men rushing from place to place to save these priceless objects.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the subject, I enjoyed the writing, I enjoyed everything about it. Robert Edsel has done an excellent job of sharing this important story with us. Perhaps there is no greater evidence of the statement that those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. We never studied the important work of the Monuments Men. As a result the allies were not prepared when Iraq was invaded in 2003. The looting of those priceless antiquities could have been avoided by simply employing a group like the MFAA. Perhaps this book will help to raise awareness so that tragedies like the Iraq museum will not happen again.

Interesting Read

A few years ago, on a trip to St. Louis, Missouri and I toured their well-known art museum. I noted a number of paintings on loan by a Jewish family that stated the paintings were returned to the family by the Monument Men. I said to myself I need to read the book. Finally, I just did.

From 1939 to the end of World War II, the Nazis Army seized priceless paintings, sculptures, tapestries and other artworks from museum, palaces, cathedrals and private homes. The Nazi plundered everything and carted it off to Germany. The Allied Forces created a group called the MFAA (Monuments, Fine Art and Archives) Division. This group consisted of men and women who were curators, archivists, art historians and artist. Their job was to find and return the art to its owners.

The book is well written and researched. Edsel examined family letters and records, museum and church archives and even the Nazi archives. The book got off to a slow start but the ending was much more interesting. Sometimes it read like a detective story. I found the repetitiveness very annoying. I found the story interesting but the way the book was written just did not grab me as I felt it should. It is a hard thing to explain. I am only going to give this book a three rating instead of a four because the author never managed to obtain that something to make the book great. The book was 468 pages. I read the e-book on my Kindle app for my iPad.

It is 2 bad, a shame, that his books are not more available. Give credit to Agribusiness and it's insane and inhuman mentality that nature is a machine that we can play with and exploit without tommorrow. We are letting them destroy our environment in the name of profits without conscience. Because there are profits with consciousness that are slowly surfacing to be able to feed us thinking in our overall health, as it should. No Gimmicks

Reading the title of this book might make you think that it is filled with black magic or voodoo. However, it is actually a collection of sound information and instruction that, when practiced, will help anyone to achieve their maximum height. It tells you which foods to eat, which yoga poses to do, and a bunch of other things to implement. I’m excited to try out some of the suggestions.

Excellent book about growing taller. I didnt really know what to expect from this book but was pleasantly surprised by the contents.There is alot of information here not only about growing taller but what also retards one"s growth.I remember growing up and how some kids were very tall and some were not.This book gives a partial explanation to that.I think lack of sleep and cigarettes can be a big factor in reduced growth while vitamins can be very helpful to growth.All in all a very informative read!

Give this excellent book a chance!

To think that I almost didn't read this book when I saw that it only received a little more than 2 stars! When I actually read the bad reviews, I discovered that one was due to pricing and the others felt there was too much British terminology. I admit it was somewhat noticeable at first but once things got going, I hardly noticed it.

Jess, our protagonist, seemed a little bit abrasive but she grew on me and I came to admire the way she became quite a force to be reckoned with. Her love for Louis knew no bounds and she became unstoppable.

Once I really got going, I could hardly stand to put the book down. Please don't let the negative reviews and small number of stars stop you from buying this book. I almost did, and I'm so glad that I didn't.

Awesome start stupid finish

This book had me hooked for the first 50 or so pages....after that anyone can figure out the twist. The characters were not well developed, and I've never heard of a character to be asleep so much in a book while containing vital information. I finished the book just to be sure I was right about who took the kid, and then was only left wondering...wouldn't it have made more sense to....well I won't spoil it but you will probably ask yourself the as!e question after you finish reading it.

The Illusion of Control

Power-fantasies are prevalent in roleplaying, but it’s not my cup of tea. Maybe it’s a British thing, but if my character is showered in glory after triumphing against impossible odds, I’ll find no satisfaction unless I suffered through hell first. Paranoia: High Programmers understands this. It’s playable as a standalone game, sure, but it’s best enjoyed by those who’ve already suffered through the nightmarish hilarities of the Paranoia universe before. Yet being in charge in Alpha Complex remains no insulation from jealous underlings, scheming rivals, or the insanity of your overlord Friend Computer.

In each game the PCs are summoned to deal with a crisis. You quarrel about how to expend limited resources on a range of available minion types, the little guys who actually (theoretically) solve the crisis, whilst the PCs sit at home eating all the pies. You are also buried under a mountain of secret missions from your political allies, agendas you covertly funnel resources into to complete, whilst preventing other PCs from doing the same.

Most sessions start with relatively sensible suggestions for solving the crisis, which are immediately vetoed by players who know the obvious approach interferes with their secret missions. Most sessions end with an utterly ludicrous (if hilarious) “solution”, stitched together like Frankenstein’s Monster to complete as many secret missions as possible; by now, you’ve worked out the only way the other players will accept your absurd demands is if you agree to theirs as well. If, along the way, a PC is framed by the rest of the party and executed for treason, that’s an added bonus.

High Programmers is designed for campaign play. All the rewards for completing secret missions only pay off in future sessions. It’s a shame, because one-offs would seem the perfect vehicle for something this silly (as in Troubleshooters). In a campaign, where the stakes are really high and the pressure of lying to your friends unrelenting, things can be unpleasantly intense.

Luckily, the game relieves this burden with humour. Though the rulebook is overrun with formatting errors, inconsistencies and typos, it’s also rich in the comedy of Paranoia’s setting, and reflects that in both artwork and text. If your gaming group is confident the fun of Alpha Complex will win out over the unyielding pressure and sporadic unfairness of the actual mechanics, then High Programmers has plenty to recommend. Everyone else should at least be wary.

Paranoia is the only game you need. Paranoia is good. All other games are bad. Play Paranoia. This is a book about Paranoia and therefore good. Everything about Paranoia is good. The Computer is your friend. Buy this book and do not read anything above your Security Clearance. If you read things that are above your Clearance you must be a Commie and need to be terminated. If you read this book and it is above your security Clearance place report to your friendly termination station for processing. Have a nice day, the Computer is your friend.

Other players attempted to frame, blackmail, suck up to, defame, defraud, assassinate, confuse, drug, and interrogate me as a result of this book.
