Ok, but not great.

This is a book with 2 seperate stories about sisters.

I'm giving it 3 stars because i enjoyed the first - 4 star worthy, didn't much care for the second - perhaps 2 stars.

The first story belongs to Cilla. She's a night dj for a popular radio station in Denver. She does a request line as part of her midnight show and picks up a stalker. The police are brought in and of course she falls for the good looking cop, Boyd, although begrudgingly.

It was an interesting story, pretty well written and *most* of the time kept my attention. A bit anti-climactic, but it was a short story of sorts so i guess we can't expect all that much. ;)

The second story belongs to Deborah. Deborah is an Assistant District Attorney responsible for prosecuting the scum in her high crime city. She meets Gage along the way and this is where i lost interest. A handsome devil for sure, she does know how to write a hero! However, after waking from almost a year long coma he finds he has the power to turn himself invisible. That's right, i said invisible. So he plays this secondary role, Nemesis, the vigilante hero keeping the streets clean after dark. Of course Deborah doesn't realize he's one in the same man, so that part of the story was a bit weak and overdone. Deborah and Gage were really great together, some pretty hot and romantic scenes. My favorite part was Deborah's temper, although she never seemed to hold on to it which i found disappointing. She'd come storming into a room spitting mad, Gage would toss her a simple "i love you" and she'd just melt all over the place. Too bad really, she had a great temper that made me laugh out loud... for a second.

I couldn't seem to get over the invisibility bit, so far fetched the story never seemed real to me and didn't hold my interest.

I love Nora but this certainly isn't her best work. It's apparently the first in a trilogy of duel story novels. I won't bother picking up the sequels.

Great short reads!

I'm a new reader of Nora Roberts so I thought I'd begin with this book that has 2 short stores within it, just to see what I thought. Am I ever glad I did! Both stories found within this book are excellent, suspenseful romances. I like how each dealt with different places and stories but also dealt with 2 sisters. The first story, Night Shift involved Cilla O'Roarke while the second, Night Shadow, involved her younger sister, Deborah O'Roarke. In the second, which took place years into the future, we got a glimpse of what happened with Cilla and Boyd from the first story while learning what Deborah had been up to later in life. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who's either thinking about reading any novel by Roberts or an already Roberts fan.

Great But For One Flaw

I totally enjoyed the characters and the storylines in both Night Shift and Night Shadow with the exception of the whole invisible man deal. Gage would have been the perfect "believable" hero (very similar to Roarke) except for that ridiculous disappearing act. I too, as the reviewer before me, was turned off by that whole theory - it was a detriment to the story. Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the characters of both Cilla and Deborah O'Roarke. I could see a matching of Cilla, Deborah and Roarke, maybe cousins, and Nora tying in the whole bad-guy Patrick Roarke (Roarke's father) having a good-sister (Cilla and Deborah's mother). That would definitely make for an interesting tale! Cilla and Boyd were great (the radio station and the songs she mentioned kept playing in my head) and Deborah and Gage were outstanding as the lawyer and the cop-turned-businessman millionaire. I was on the edge of my seat with both endings and really enjoyed how they played out. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Talented Writer--You gotta read this!!

A great piece of erotic fiction from a very talented writer. Love the way the story is unfolding. Especially like the way the characters’ backgrounds are being revealed a bit at a time, sometimes in a narrative, and sometimes as flashbacks triggered by events and experiences. I know these are “short” serial pieces that eventually will build into a longer, more fully developed novel. I have not yet figured out if Ms. Daniels has an endgame in view, or if she is allowing the story to evolve a bit more organically, but she has already alluded to a few subplots/conspiracies. I definitely look forward to see where Emily will take this.

As you can see, this is not simply someone working porn into a weak plot to disguise the “porn part”. It is evolving into a complicated story. But is truly IS EROTICALLY charged. Ms. Daniels has created a futuristic world, full of structure, religious connotation, a male-dominated society, and a feared penal system that ensures that the principles of order and discipline are consistently and effectively maintained and preserved. Her descriptions of the methods and implements and devices used show a personal and intimate understanding of the feel and taste of everything experienced by the inmates. Emily takes humiliation and cruelty and pain and weaves them into a story that might make the reader conclude that, “Hmmmm……maybe this CAN happen somehow”.

Ms. Daniels has also gone into the details of the politics of the New Order (the RAC) , complete with policies, principles, codes of conduct and several layers of social structures---one within the new regime (free citizens) and another within the penal system itself. She shows a true understanding of misogyny, and reveals what I think in her personally might be a blend of both cruelty and extreme masochism. I look for elements of the author to be further revealed in her characters as she develops them. Ms. Daniels shows a skill in doing that, and I think the reader will hunger for the next “chapter” in the serial to be released.

Now I have to go e-mail the Warden with a question or three.

Good Book To Get Started...

I have few matters with this book which kind of its contradict itself. On page 155 on the book, Katz asked and answered "Can I Pray Directly To God?" / "The intellect can not communicate directly with God."

Maybe not the intellect itself but on subconscious level we still can so that's why Morrnah has her own Hooponopono PRAYER. She PRAYED too to let God's divine love in to clean and erase memories. So yes we CAN actually pray directly yo God but there are also ways to pray with keeping ego's wants outside which explained by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Dr. Joseph Murphy.

Another couple of questions on pages 156 and 157 is "What about setting goals, affirmations and visualizations"

Mabel Katz said NO to those because of her training she got from Ihaleakala. Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len perhaps not doing affirmations and setting goals or practicing visualizations but because the divine inspiration he got for HIMSELF. While doing Hooponopono he received the inspiration of doing nothing but cleaning, because that's his life goal.

But everyone of us is different. When I do the cleaning I usually get different inspirations... Like setting a goal, doing a certain project, taking a certain action, doing visualizations and affirmations / praying. Because Divine Love inspires me in a certain way... Because everyone walking on a different path.

I'm personally doing Hooponopono to clean and erase erroneous memories / repeating subconscious programs and ALSO letting go the attachments between I am and my goals and expectations. Letting Go & Letting God creates miracles and its working for me that way.

So every person who is into Hooponopono interpreting it on their own way. As you all well should do...

Previous Review with the title: it works...

This is the best single book ever written about the most powerful thing I've ever seen in my whole life, called Ho'ponopono. I'm writing this sincerely as a Turkish person who lives in Turkey - and surrounded by negativity, lack, bigotry, dogma, ignorance and despair. And I'm not working on Self Development industry, I'm a passionate 3D artist, designer & photographer.

First of all I'd like to inform you that this is not about winning your famous "$1.000.000". After The Secret that "$1.000.000" thing become a common goal to everyone who doesn't even have a definite chief aim in life. Like Think & Grow Rich Philosophy, Self Identity through Ho'ponopono is not about the money; it has never been. It is the growth, learn, expand, reach to the happiness, health and wealth and peace of mind. Money is simply a by-product of growing and raising our awareness.

All I can say is The Easiest Way is truly the best book about the method. It's clear, easy to read and understand especially someone like me who English is not the native language. I'd like to tell you how powerful it is right now; because a couple minutes ago I was in a tasteless major argument with couple of family members. I realized that I wasn't cleaning, opened the book and found the sentence on the page 111 and started to repeat it mentally and in English! Not even in my native language! And in just MINUTES my family members cooled down and made peace. It is that powerful!

I can not write enough here to how important that ancient Hawaiian teaching is! Should be taught on the schools, should be part everyone's life. It has the power to transmute today's world into HEAVEN.

Believe me, I have MANY self help / self development books. From less known to superstar life coaches - famous giant NLP dudes to positive-love-butterfly ladies. But I put their books away for a while and keeping this little book on my desk and reading it frequently.

Five Star presentation of ho'oponopono

Mabel Katz worked with Dr. Hew Len for over ten years, and her book reflects that transcendent point of view. I find that I can open her little book anywhere and read a phrase that inspires me. Her ego-less presentation of ho'oponopono is in stark contrast to Joe Vitale's ego-filled Zero Limits. If you want to know about the essence of ho'oponopono this is the book for you.

I would have given this book 4 stars except that I read other books on Ho Oponopono that were so poorly written that I gave this one 5 stars for FINALLY providing me the information I was looking for. This is not only a good review of Ho Oponopono, it's a great introduction to it as well. Clear, concise, and heart-felt. Highly recommend for someone who wants better, deeper understanding of Ho Oponopono.

Convicting, Comforting, Challenging, and Inspiring

Ever feel like your stuck spiritually? Mark Buchanan did, and out of it poured this book about moving beyond our ideas of God and getting to know the real God of the Bible.

Many Christians get stuck in what he calls the Borderland, the land between salvation and sanctification. The first half of the book goes into detail about the life in Borderland and what keeps us there. Such things as pride, laziness, fear, doubt, self-reliance, and more are all looked at.

The second half explores ways we can get to know the God of the Bible, who isn't safe and who might ask much of us. But by getting to know Him, we move beyond the familiar into a rich spiritual life. Mark doesn't go for something out of the ordinary here. And there are no quick, sure answers. Instead, he goes looks at familiar disciplines of the Christian life. But he goes beyond the familiar and looks at why we do them and how they can affect our lives.

This book is wonderful. We get an honest look at the life of a Christian and the struggles involved. It's filled with examples from life and the Bible to help explain its points. And it's written in an easy to follow style. Yet it's filled with so much, it's often hard to digest. I'm already planning a reread there's so much here to chew on.

The first half might have been a little long. He had me convinced I needed the second part with the introduction. Still, if you want to grow in your relationship with God, this is the book for you.

A Reasonable Treatment

I mentioned to a friend that I was reading Mark Buchanan's book Your God Is Too Safe and that I had recently finished The Rest of God. "What's Buchanan like?" he wanted to know. The best I could do was to suggest that the style and theme of his writing is quite a lot like what he'd find if he read John Eldredge. But unlike Eldredge, Buchanan's books are actually grounded on some solid theology. I was surprised to find that I enjoyed a book that was endorsed by the likes of Philip Yancey and Eugene Patterson. Yet it is also endorsed by J.I. Packer who says, quite accurately, "Within a framework of biblical orthodoxy, Mark Buchanan's jabbing insights minister a salutary pastoral shake-up, drawing and driving us sluggards to come closer to our God."

Buchanan believes that evangelicals have constructed a God of their own making: a God who is too safe. He is a loving God, but a God who is entirely predictable. But the truth is, this God bears little resemblance to the God of Scripture--a God who is entirely unpredictable. We dislike God as He really is, and so we run away from Him like Jonah or hide from Him like Adam. Where we end up when we do this is a place Buchanan calls "borderland," a strange and safe place that promises nothing and delivers nothing. Your God Is Too Safe is a wake-up call--a call to escape this borderland and live with God in "the holy wild."

In the first half of the book, Buchanan lays the groundwork, showing how and why we run and hide from God. The primary reason is bad theology: a steady traffic of invented or distorted ideas about God. But "God isn't nice," he says. "He isn't safe. God is a consuming fire. Though he cares about the sparrow, the embodiment of His care is rarely doting or pampering. God's main business is not ensuring that you and I get parking spaces close to the mall entrance [this was written pre-Osteen too!] or that the bed sheets in the color we want are--miracle!--on sale this week. His main business is making you and me holy. And for those of us who love borderland more than holy ground, whose hearts are more slow than burning, that always requires both the kindness and the sternness of our God." After suggested that the Catholic cult of Mary arose because of a dark and punishing medieval portrait of God the Father, he challenges evangelicals. "In Protestantism, I think we've simply substituted the safe god. But the biting irony is this: Neither the safe god nor the tyrant god are the real God...the true God is far more fierce and fearsome than the bullying and petulant god of our imaginations. But His anger is not irritability: It is the distillation of His justice, His hatred of evil. It is what we would want, even demand, from a good God." This is a cutting insight and one that challenged me. As Tozer said, we need to take refuge from God, in God.

The second half of the book challenges Christians with spiritual disciplines. "We have to train for the spiritual life. That's the most lost idea to the world, and it requires whole books and sermon series to establish its value, even its validity." We need to practice holy habits and to weave these habits deeply into our lives. Like all habits, good, holy habits eventually come to define us and to become our ways. They may be awkward and feel unnatural at the beginning, but they will soon become natural, beautiful and indispensable. The disciplines Buchanan teaches are: practicing the presence of God, understanding the wounds that have inflicted us and allowing God to heal them, confessing sin both to God and to others, solitude, fasting, reading Scripture, service, prayer and delight. Among the better chapters are those dealing with fasting, confession of sin and solitude. Buchanan discusses these without falling into the contemplative, New Age practices that have become far too common in the church today. He provides practical advice on how to proceed in developing such disciplines.

As may be clear by now, Your God Is Too Safe is quite a good book. Buchanan writes with force and conviction and a good deal of urgency. But one concern stayed in the back of my mind throughout the book. While Buchanan's theology is generally sound, he often quotes those whose theology strays outside that framework of biblical orthodoxy mentioned by Packer. He quotes Philip Yancey on a few occasions and holds up Mother Teresa and Saint Francis as examples of people who have "gotten it." He portrays Richard Foster as an expert on the spiritual disciplines. When I see people holding up Mother Teresa as the example of Christian virtue I always wonder just how much that person understands about biblical theology. How can a person truly understand justification, and yet hold as an example a person who denied it? Are there not better examples we can use? Do we really feel that Mother Teresa was such a wonderful example of Christian virtue, or is she just the easy and popular example? This was an ongoing disappointment with this book.

Like Wild at Heart, Your God Is Too Safe will not appeal to all Christians (though, unlike Eldredge's book, this one is targetted at both men and women). My father, for instance, cannot tolerate terms like "the holy wild" or "woundedness" or "brokenness" and would get little enjoyment from this book. But for those who enjoyed the style of Wild at Heart but objected to the content, Your God Is Too Safe may have appeal. However, I would not recommend it in place of a book such as Don Whitney's "Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life" - a book that will provide a more consistently biblical framework in developing and enjoying the spiritual disciplines. Buchanan's book is good. It is challenging. But it is not the strongest, most Scriptural treatment of the topic.

A CHRISTIAN CLASSIC

Mark Buchanan is surely among the finest Christian writers of our day. His scriptural insights, lucid illustrations, and moving anecdotes ring true and speak profoundly to the modern Christian reader. Buchanan delves deeply into the realities of spiritual struggle and discouragement; of joy and discipline. I remember turning to a friend once and crying out, "How hard is this (Christianity) supposed to be?!" Buchanon answers that question, and others, with eloquence I have rarely seen matched. I'm on my second reading of the book and have bought twelve copies to give to friends. Of the two young pastors I have given copies to, both have passed additional copies along to others, and have raved about it. Read it!

About the Author
James M. DelPrince is an Associate Professor of Floral Design and Interior Plantscaping Design at Mississippi State University, home of the country's leading Floral Management program in Horticulture. A member of Professional Floral Communicators International and the American Institute of Floral Designers, he is a past president of the latter organization's Southern Region. As an expert in Victorian era floral design, Dr. DelPrince completed prestigious fellowships at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and Winterthur, the country estate of Henry Francis du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. DelPrince co-authored The AIFD Guide to Floral Design, is a featured writer for Flora magazine, and produced a series of educational videos on Flowers for Entertaining. He earned his B.S. in Horticulture and M.S. in Agricultural Education from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University.

Don't bother

Don't waste your money on this book or any "SEO" books written by Sean Odom, including those written under "pseudonyms", including Mike Monahan, Jason McCormick and Sean M. Farrell. These are all one and the same person which he uses to promote his multitude of SEO related businesses, giving the appearance not only of having multiple "SEO Experts" working for his companies but also of creating the illusion that his various companies are not actually related. Thus he can give the appearance of objectivity when, as one person/author, he "recommends" another of his business to readers/customers (which is basically any business or company or service he recommends aside from the obvious exceptions like Google and Microsoft). Extremely good information but full of grammatical errors and typos.

Sean is clearly an expert and I recommend this book even if you don't plan to optimise your site because it will show you what is required to raise your site's visitor numbers. Armed with the information, you can decide whether it's necessary and assess how many man-hours it might take. That's a useful piece of information if you need to negotiate a price for the work.

Sean does, however, assume a certain amount of knowledge on the reader's part. For example, if you've never heard of a "robots.txt" file, you might want to read a more basic manual first.

On the downside, the book has not been copy-edited. Considering that Sean insists that you should check your website for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, it's disappointing to find that this book is full of such errors. Indeed, it lowers Sean's credibility and would make me think twice about letting him type anything on any of my sites. Basic mistakes such as the use of "your" instead of "you're" are especially worrying but there are also words missing, words duplicated and words misspelt - the combination of errors making some paragraphs difficult to understand. Frankly, this book is a "beta version" and should never have been released as it is. Please, Sean, get it fixed.
