An amazing find!

What i loved about this book is that it establishes very basic types of intuitives. and it's not based on the different types of "claires' (voyance, audience, etc). It breaks it down to 4 types; Emotional, Mental, Physical, and Spiritual intuitive. It's kind of like learning about how you learn (visual, audio, kinesthetic, spatial, etc) and using that to learn better and faster.
This book has you take a questionnaire and depending on the answers it describes what intuitive type you are. It then describes what kind of exercises to do that will help use what comes naturally to you. This will allow the reader to enhance their innate abilities and use it as a means to work on being other types. When I read my type (Mental intuitive) it described me to a T! Then when I had my friend do it was also pretty accurate (Emotional). Turns out she's the yin to my yang :D or vice versa LOL. I always thought we balanced each other out :D

I think that this book would make all those other development books easier to utilize as it may give you a better understanding of how to approach the exercises and how to avoid pitfalls that your type may be prone to. Such an Awesome find!

This is a wonderful book I have not only read, but will study

This book is a new comer to the burgeoning number of metaphysical books that are available today, but this one is anything but "run of the mill". Sherrie Dillards unassuming style and embraceable approach to spiritual development in this, her first book, takes the reader by the hand and instead of coming from the perspective of a gifted psychic teaching the "uninitiated" - as so many books of this nature do, she leads you through a Myers Briggs-like examination of your own inherent psychic abilities as one caring friend might accompany another. I found this book to be not only an enjoyable read, but one I will actually re-read and study for its fresh, encouraging, and effective approach to Spiritual development. I agree - We all as "Spiritual beings having a physical experience" possess some degree of inherent intuitive ability. This author can help you identify where your abilities naturally manifests, and she can help you develop that ability to the extent you are willing open your mind and heart to the possibility. I sincerely hope this will be the first of many books from this new Author.

A must read

If you are interested in understanding more about your intuition and you can buy just one book on your next trip to the bookstore, make it this one. There's far more useful information in this book than you'd expect and the author's down-to-earth style makes it an easy read. I have dozens of books on this subject, but this one is possibly the best...at the very least it's among my top three. Many of my other titles are like appetizers - they just dont' satisfy your hunger....this book is a seven-course meal. After I bought it, it sat on my coffee table for a week before I started reading it....and then I couldn't put it down. It answered many of my questions and many questions I hadn't thought to ask. I feel more confident, like I know my 'self' better than I did before, I believe in myself just a little bit more. I love this book! I'm buying several copies for friends and relatives for Christmas.

Mostly, this audio is hampered by its confusing and disjointed organization—techniques that worked reasonably well in the print version and the movie, such as cutting every few seconds from one enthusiastic expert to another, make for a choppy and somewhat bewildering listening experience. The gentle cadences of Rhonda Byrne's breathy, Aussie-infused voice are certainly the best part of the audio, but her material is scarce and provides mostly connective tissue between the testimonials.

Try it. What do you have to lose?

When I first began to read this book I honestly thought it was a crock and a waste of my time and money. I started with an expectation of what I thought the book was about and the style of writing that I should expect. When I initially disagreed with one of the authors viewpoint with in the book and scrutinized another's personal life through research I was almost stop reading, but I decided to continue reading anyway. I made a wise decision to.

I had heard about the law of attraction before, but never took the time to investigate what it truly meant. As the book unraveled and began to reveal "The Secret," and how to apply it into my life immediately, I allowed myself to be open in receiving whatever insight I could in order to help me overcome several difficulties in my life and achieve a better quality of life overall.

By the middle of the book I chose to practice some of the techniques that were briefly described through the text just to try it out. For the past 3 weeks I have had pain in the middle of my back. I had even recently gone to a chiropractor to help alleviate my symptoms, which only worked temporarily. The moment I tried the technique of closing my eyes, clearly my mind, and speaking affirmations of confidence and healing something changed. I did not realize the pain in the middle of my pain, which I had been experiencing for weeks, was gone until about 5-10 minutes later when I stopped to stretch. I am not a blogger, I do not receive free books, or any type of compensation for this or any review I ever write. I also am usually one to dispel instant claims of miraculous effects occurring just from reading a text or saying a chant, so when I tell you my pain left and has not been back since I am shocked in a way. I still am secretly wondering when the pain will reappear, but by the continuation of applying the law I highly doubt it will. From that moment I figured if it's that easy then I wonder what life will be like once I apply it to every area of my life.

By the end of the book and my own personal testament, I was hooked. This is a life changing book and I see why it has sold millions and millions of copies around the world. It really works if you apply and believe. After previewing The Power and The Magic, I intend to read those two as well. This has easily become one of my all-time favorite books and I highly recommend it. Just try it. What do you have to lose?

Good read. Good philosophy.

This was my 3rd time purchasing this publication because the first 2 were lent out and never returned. I love it! I'm not a religious person but this metaphysical idea is something I can get behind. I like to have it to reference even though I've read it many times. I suppose you could consider it my bible. Easy to read and such a simple to grasp concept! I would recommend this to anyone interested in the metaphysical take on why things happen the way they do.

When it came time for me to talk, I wasn’t sure which parts of my past to tell, which to keep secret, and which to pretend never happened. Uncle Jr. had already seen the welts on my back, so he wasn’t too surprised when I told them about some of the physical abuse I endured at Diane’s. Everyone else hit the roof, except Daddy. He got really quiet and started balling and unballing his fists.

I continued my update. Experience had taught me that adults have trouble accepting the idea of children having sex. I decided that from then on, that part of my life never happened. I picked up the story by telling them about Fly, the Gangstas, and getting shot.

I was dying for a cigarette. So it seemed a good time to announce that I smoked cigarettes—and weed.

After a moment Sam looked at me, smiled, and handed me one of her Marlboros. I preferred menthols, but beggars can’t be choosers. I kicked back, took a long drag, and closed my eyes.

Daddy and Jr. were silent. They seemed a bit shocked and unsure about how to respond.

“Well, Cup,” Jr. said, “it’s a little too late to be trying to raise you now. But those cigarettes will kill you. And weed will only lead you to stronger drugs.”

He didn’t know how right he was. But for me, it was too late to be worrying about stronger drugs—the only worrying I did was whether I could find a connection to get some. So I just smiled, nodded, and took another hit off my cigarette.

The eerie quiet returned.

It took me a while to get into this book because of the terrible things that Cupcake experienced and the choices she made but it is a very inspiring book that no matter what you have been through, how little you have, you can turn it around if you are determined and put the hard work in. Cup was able to accomplish so much near the end - I kind of wish more emphasis was put onto the amazing things near the end - after struggling to get to where she turns it around I didn't want the book to end because I wanted to hear more of the great things she has done. I have seen too many lives affected by drugs and this gives me hope that more people in situations like this can and do turn it around to become successful and have a rewarding life. My cousin battled with drugs and addiction from a young age and then when approaching 40 he got clean and went back to school. He just graduated at the top of his class and was hired with what I believe is one of his first jobs EVER and is doing fabulous. I am so proud that he made the decision and is doing so well now. He sees what it's like to live life to the fullest and is happier than ever. This book gives you a "good feeling" and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a motivational/inspirational story.

Great job Cupcake Brown!! Thank you for sharing your story and I am so glad you were able to overcome all of the unfortunate situations you had to deal with through your life! I hope people dealing with an addiction can see that there is life without drugs and that they really can succeed if they have the determination.

Inspiring, heart breaking, and honest

**SPOILER?? I couldn't write my review without touching on some plot points, but it shouldn't be anything so revealing to ruin the book.

I started reading A Peice of Cake shortly after losing my mom. I was young and it was unexpected, so I was deeply lost. Cupcake's story made me feel emotions in ways that few books can, at a time that I needed to feel more than anything else. The feelings she described surrounding the death of her mother left me sobbing, but grateful to know my own feelings weren't abnormal. There were other things in her book that I (unfortunately) related to as well, and again I would feel better reading her story and feeling less alone in my own thoughts. The way that she described events with such blatant honesty, the magnitude of Cupcake's experiences, the long path of her soberity— its inspiring and moving. Sometimes I would read and just cry. Sometimes they were tears of happiness, sometimes sadness or anger. But above all, her story translated out of the book into my head creating genuine emotions. Few books have done this for me. This is a book that will stick with me for a lifetime.

A Gripping Memoir

This is a very sad, and mostly depressing memoir. The horrors that "Cup" endured were painful to read. The book is a little long and not very well written. But I guess the quality of the writing is not the point of this book. Having read a lot of books written by substance abusers I found the last third of the book a bit "been there/read that." However, her story is very inspirational and has its uplifting moments. To have gone through what she went through and come out the other side - doing what she's doing now - is truly miraculous. Keep some kleenex nearby.

A Great Series

“A Great Series!”

It’s 1962, and Judy Cooper is pregnant with Leo’s baby. Leo’s sister, Christina is still wearing the fake Stiletto outfit and robbing the mob boss, keeping heat on The Black Stiletto from both the police and mob. Now in hiding at Barry Gorman’s mountain retreat until the baby is born, she can only harass Leo and his sister by telephone. Once the baby is born, however, she puts her plan in operation to prove that Christina is the fake Stiletto, and with her brother Leo is conspiring to rip off the big boss. The plan comes off, but not before a police shoot-out with gangsters, and once again Judy is on the run, but this time with her baby. They head for Odessa, Texas, where she hopes to fence the diamond stolen by Leo and his sister, to help her support the baby. But she brings more death to her hometown, and eventually has to run again.

This is the final entry in Judy’s career as The Black Stiletto. It also brings Martin, Maggie, and Gina to the realization that Judy’s Alzheimer’s is in the fatal stages, and her life is coming to an end. But Gina now has the Stiletto’s outfit, and she has been recruited into a secret government organization, leaving the door open to new adventures of a modern day Black Stiletto – if the author so desires. Even though Judy Cooper’s career as The Black Stiletto only lasted five years, from 1958 to 1962, I still hated to see her stories end. And it was even worse to see her dying with Alzheimer’s after such a brilliant life. The series was unique in the way the author presented her story through diaries being read by her adult son, and the reader gets a view of past and present as the stories unfold. Judy Cooper was charming, and The Black Stiletto was fascinating. I’m glad I had the chance to read her adventures. Highly recommended.

All of your questions answered in the past and present! This awesome conclusion to the Black Stiletto series really brings it all together. Loved the ways the stories were woven together to bring the past into the present. Highly recommended!

More fun than witches, vampires, or archers

This is the 5th and final chapter in the life of the Black Stiletto, and it was as exciting and fun to read as the first four books. The diary format was used beautifully, to maintain suspense between her exploits in the late 50s, early 60s, and her demise in "present" time, sadly succumbing to dementia or Alzheimer's. The adventures of her son and granddaughter as they discover the Stiletto's secret life and get entangled in the loose ends from the previous era,( i.e. bad guys who seek vengeance against the avenger) make this a real page-turned. I enjoy Benson's use of actual locations, as they existed then and now, which ties this fictional character to a reality familiar to most readers. No super powers or magic tricks are involved. I hope the adventures continue with granddaughter Gina assuming the role in the present, in Chicago.

Helpful & Insightful

As a professed introvert, understanding the beauty of being someone who prefers quiet over chaos more often than not has become an interest of mine. And upon writing the post shared this past February about embracing one's introversion, I was pleasantly surprised to discover many fellow introverts.

Upon discovering Sophia Dembling's new book The Introvert's Way, I had the fortunate opportunity to review a copy before it became available (released today - Dec. 4th). While similar to Susan Cain's Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking, Dembling book is quite validating (". . . introverts can perhaps lay claim to high levels of creativity"), but at the same time Dembling, herself an introvert, offers accessible advice on how to interact successfully and create quality relationships with others that may be far more extroverted than we understand.

With chapters titled: What Quiet Says, Introverts are Not Failed Extroverts, Loneliness is a State of Mind and Mistakes Introverts Make, it is authentic based on her own experiences, helpful with its relatable situations that you may have thought you were the only one experiencing and wise on how to deal with those who may not understand. After all, it's okay if you enjoy your own company more often than not (in fact, it's a very good thing), and once you understand that this idea that extroversion is better and the American way is all a myth, you too will hopefully breathe a sigh of relief and go about accepting yourself for exactly who you are, being comfortable living in a way that works for you. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.

Way To Be an Introvert

Not surprisingly, the rest of the book is just as insightful, witty, and engaging. In addition to exploring, explaining, and validating the introvert's way (which really is way cool once you can fully appreciate it), it helps introverts "calibrate our need for solitude with our need for human interaction." (p. 70) And, to that end, the author offers some great affirmations (pp. 177-179):
*Staying home is doing something.
*My presence is a gift, not a requirement.
*I like who I like.
*Listening to bores is not my job.
*Managing my energy is a favor to myself and everyone around me.
*Saying no can be a kindness.
*I can love other people and still not be responsible for their good time.
*Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I have nothing to say.
*Putting on my dog and pony show is optional.
*A ringing phone is not a mandate.
*I know what I need better than anyone else.
*Other people's desire for me to participate is not more important than my desire not to participate.

If you're an introvert, you'll likely feel understood, inspired, and deeply entertained by this book. The book's a breeze to read through--the only challenge might be finding a quiet spot in the noisy world where you can soak it all in. (And, of course, there's no need to answer any phones while doing so.)

Inside the mind of an introvert

I was introduced to this book after reading an article by Sophia Dembling in the Wall Street Journal on December 14, 2012 entitled "All I Want for Christmas Is...A Little Space," so I picked up a copy of "The Introvert's Way" in hopes of learning more about introverts like myself. I was not disappointed.

Ms. Dembling immediately dives into shattering the common misconceptions on introverts. Distinguishing shyness from introversion, she states "shy people are scared of socializing. Introverts just aren't always interested in it." She separates introverts into "shy" and "not shy" categories, shredding the common misconception of all introverts being the former. Because of society's preference for extroversion over introversion, a lot of the "not shy" introverts are able to give off the impression of being an extrovert when they really aren't. Ms. Dembling even cites a study that shows it's a lot easier for introverts to act as extroverts than it is for extroverts to act as introverts, perhaps because introverts are more experienced at putting on--as Ms. Dembling refers to it--the "dog-and-pony show."

Moving beyond the comparisons between extroverts and introverts, this book does teach a lot to introverts about their own nature. She spends a bit of time talking about what introverts like to do, such as hiking, biking, kayaking, coffee shops, reading, walking, yoga, one-on-one conversations with good friends, writing, and other activities that encourage concentration and solitude. I'm personally interested in trying out her suggestion on mountain climbing, so perhaps other readers will be encouraged to try some of the other suggestions that Ms. Dembling says introverts like to do.

Most of all, as a self-proclaimed introvert, I was already comfortable with my own nature. However, Ms. Dembling's book made me even more content with myself. She writes that extroverts and introverts are better off letting each other be themselves, since we won't be able to change each others' nature anyway (introversion will probably stick with you throughout your entire life, she writes in the aforementioned Wall Street Journal article). Since nobody can change an introvert's way, we may as well try to understand it. This book is a good place to start.

The uncomfortable truth about Architecture

I studied Architecture in the early 60's when the theories described here were in "full bloom". It has taken us a long time to get past stoicism in architecture. As always Tom Wolfe's is funny and entertaining when he delivers his observations on life. Thank you Tom!
